If you follow along on my blog, you know every year I choose a word of the year and use it to set goals throughout the year. In January, I posted my 2022 word of the year would be “improve.”

It quickly became evident that that was NOT a good word for me, at least not this year. Not because I didn’t have room for improvement. We all know that’s not true. But it seemed like any time I TRIED to improve, things went sideways. Not only was I not improving, I seemed to be failing at what should have been simple, everyday tasks.

Over the last few weeks, though, my yoga teacher has been talking about balance. One of the definitions he shares with us is “balance is the equal distribution of presence.” That REALLY hit me the first time he said it, and it’s continued to strike me on some level every time since.

So I’m now choosing to change my word of 2022 to BALANCE, and I’m coming at it using this definition. Let’s see if I can equally distribute my presence for the rest of this year – between work and home, between things I need to do and things that bring me joy.
