Tips for Prioritizing Marketing Efforts Right Now | SEO & Social Media Management | SBN Marketing

These are strange times. Stay at home orders and such have most of us getting information and news in different ways than we would under “normal” circumstances. As business owners, we need to consider this change in a variety of ways, too. Economic changes make looking at where are dollars are going crucial. But where your marketing dollars are going (and YES, you should still be spending money on marketing!) should reflect these new consumer habits to ensure you’re making the most of them.

Our suggestion is to put a majority, immediate focus on social media, email marketing, your social profiles, and your blog. Here’s why:

  1. Screen time is up. Folks are consuming news AND entertainment on their phones and tablets more than ever.
  2. The algorithms aren’t on any sort of pandemic break. If you want to show up in social media and/or organic searches when all of this is over, staying top-of-mind for your consumers and the algorithms now is utterly important. Saying to yourself, “Well, my business has had to temporarily close because of XYZ order, so I don’t need to invest anything in posting anywhere” is, pardon our bluntness, DUMB. When you’re back up and running, you will be lost as far as searches and reach go, and that may turn your temporary closure into a permanent one.
  3. Social profiles like Yelp and Google My Business allow you to keep folks abreast of closures, special hours, changes in services, etc, in the places they’re already looking for information about you or companies like yours. The more info you can give folks in the places they already are, the more likely you are to get their business or support.

The lesser priority, in our opinion, should be placed on SEO. Notice we said LESSER priority. It’s still a priority. We tell our clients that SEO work done today can take three to six months to start showing results. Again, to be ranked well in the organic results when all of this is over, work should be being done now…or should’ve started already. Don’t pull this work just because of today’s circumstances.
