As a social media professional, I’m asked almost daily, “Should I be on all social media outlets?” or “Which social media outlets do I need to be on?”

The simple answers to those questions are “no” and “the ones where your audience is”. But there are longer answers…

You don’t need to be on all social media outlets, period. That would be WAY to hard to manage and WAY beyond unnecessary. Your first order of business should be to find where your audience is AND where they’re looking for your services. While everyone and their brothers may be on Facebook, there’s a good probability that they’re not looking for the IT company for their Fortune 500 business there. Every professional may be on LinkedIn, but they’re probably not looking for their wedding photographer there. The same goes for Instagram, Snapchat, etc – people that MAY use your services MAY be on that outlet, but if they’re not looking for your services there, you don’t need to focus on that outlet. If you don’t know where to find this information or what to look for, a social media professional can help you here. Many may not help you with this step alone, but SBN Marketing can be hired to do this sort of consultation.

Once you do the research and find the best outlets on which to reach your audience, your next step should be to prioritize. Are you going to be managing your social media yourself, in addition to your full-time job and/or running your business? Will you be hiring social media help? Your own time investment or your budget for your social media professional could very well determine how many outlets you use, so you need to make sure you’re using the ones best-suited to your business and your goals.

SBN Marketing is available to help you through the confusing world that is social media marketing. Shoot us an email to get the process started!
